HEADLINE: Istanbul Awaits Powerboat P1

The Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea is less than three weeks away and Powerboat P1 officials joined Istanbul delegates at the lavish Çırağan Palace on Monday for the fast-approaching event’s official press conference.

Addressing the Turkish media, sponsors and event organisers, Powerboat P1 Chairman & Chief Executive Asif Rangoonwala outlined momentous plans for Istanbul and his eagerness to show-off the Powerboat P1
World Championship to a new fanbase.

“Racing in the heart of one of the biggest cities in the world, on one of the busiest global waterways, should make for spectacular viewing and attract big crowds along the stunning Bosphorus shoreline.”

Deputy Mayor of Istanbul, Göskel Gümüşdağ believes Powerboat P1’s Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea will be like nothing else ever staged in Istanbul adding, “It’s going to be an incredible spectacle with the people of Istanbul united by their love of the sea.

“It is a great source of happiness for Turkey that our country ranks among the top in Europe in terms of ship construction and ranks the 4th in the world in mega yacht construction. Having the Powerboat P1 World Championship in Istanbul after all these achievements is also a source of great excitement and honour.

“These races will bring a new enthusiasm to many industries such as the maritime and ship construction sectors, especially to the yacht construction sector as well as their benefits to our city’s promotion and tourism.”

Buoyed on by the prospect of bringing maritime racing to Istanbul, Gümüşdağ added: “Istanbul is a mosaic of cultures and it’s a great statement for the city to be attracting a special sporting competition, such as the Powerboat P1 World Championship, to help promote the Bosphorus on the world stage.

“Powerboat P1 is an all-action high octane race of the sea and we are all looking forward to welcoming the best pilots in the world to the Bosphorus.”

The Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea runs from June 19-21 with free public viewing along the Bosphorus.
